Community Outreach


 

 

 

Our Community Outreach Program brings the benefits of chess to local libraries, community centers, and other locations by utilizing chess as a teaching tool to improve children’s’ academic performance and develop positive life skills.  We  have partnered with several libraries to offer free chess lessons to the community.  Future goals for the outreach program are to hold chess programs at title I schools during summer break.  A list of our community programs is listed on our home page.

 

Special Events are held throughout the year.  During the winter break from school we had over 1000 people come through and play chess in our first Holiday Chess Festival at McCormick Place.  We were honored to be invited by Chicago's Mayor's Office of Special Events to bring chess to their annual Holiday Sports Festival at McCormick Place (photos).  We will be back for the 2007 Holiday Sports Festival with a larger space and more activities.  Also, we are working on several other activities for 2007.

 

Our Lending Library of Chess Books provides a resource for people to help them improve their chess playing.  Books can be checked out for up to four weeks at a time at no cost.  Use the button below to view the books we have on hand:
