Sullivan High
School hosted the CPS North Side Playoff's, Mr. David Berrol, the school's chess
coach, the chess team, & Assistant Principal Luis Velazquez, all had been
very busy preparing for the event. Upon early morning arrival for set up we were
warmly welcomed by the school who had accommodated the needs for the tournament
for space, chairs, & extra manpower. The Sullivan HS chess team was there
to help & to raise money for their club by providing food for sale.
Twenty-Nine schools (254 players) plus coaches, parents & siblings, attended.
There was a coaches meeting, 5 rounds played & awards. The awards were presented
by Mr. Darrin Osborne, Chicago Public Schools Chess Coordinator, National
Chess Master Esad Elezaj, & Mr. David Heiser of Renaissance Knights Chess
Foundation. We would like to thank Sullivan High School for their concerted
effort to make this tournament a success. Congratulations to all the winners &
